Katie Sawyer, Registered Clinical Counsellor in Nelson, BC

About me…

Hi, I’m Katie.

I’ve never been one for small talk. I’ve always been curious about what lies beneath the surface—of our experiences, relationships, patterns, and the ways we make sense of our lives. As your therapist, I work alongside you, bringing my curiosity, therapeutic perspective, and a willingness to sit with what is difficult.

I see therapy as a creative and collaborative process. While it may ask us to sit with difficult things, I believe it can also be expansive, surprising, and even joyful. Therapy can help make room for new ways of understanding ourselves and our experiences, loosening patterns that have become limiting, and opening up possibilities that have been difficult to see before.

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#25538) and Canadian Certified Counsellor (#11260352) who works with adults and teens. I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. My background in Comparative Religion and Peace & Conflict Studies reflects my longstanding curiosity about how we make meaning of our lives, as well as a commitment to social justice. Many years of travelling and living internationally have deepened my cultural humility and given me a deep respect for the unique worldview each person brings into therapy.

My 20 years of teaching yoga have shaped my appreciation for the ways our experiences live in both body and mind. Together with my training in Counselling Psychology, Narrative Therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), parts work (TIST), and somatic attachment, these experiences continue to shape the way I practice.
